    1) how to figure out what really may be happening with your child and get help to fix it;

    2) how to understand the evaluations that are used in the special education process;

    3) how to advocate for your own child, including various strategies available to you; and

    4) how to take your school district to a due process hearing from start to finish without a lawyer.

  • How long will the Masterclass take? The Masterclass is broken into 10 Modules that you can work through at your own pace. You can take 10 weeks from start to finish and complete one Module per week, or you can work through them faster. Some Modules may take more than one week to complete depending on your work demands, personal obligations, and the Activities in each Module.

  • How much time should I plan to spend on this Masterclass each week? The first few Modules can be completed fairly quickly, probably in 2 hours or less. Once you dig in to the advocacy Modules, the Activities may take you several hours each to do a thorough job.

  • Where do I have to live to benefit from taking this Masterclass? Module 2 will help children around the world who are struggling to learn. All 10 Modules are designed for families who live in the United States of America. The federal special education laws covered in the Masterclass apply to all 50 States, federal districts, & territories of the United States.

  • Do I have to be an attorney to represent my child? No, you do not have to be an attorney to represent your child. In fact, the U.S. Supreme Court ruled in Winkelman v. Parma City School District, (No. 05-983)(2007), that parents may represent their children's interests in special education cases, and are not required to hire a lawyer before going to court. The Court held that parents have legal rights under the IDEA and can pursue IDEA claims on their own behalf, although they are not licensed attorneys. Parents can represent themselves at due process hearings and file their own State and/or federal complaints.

  • Do I need to be an attorney or have a college degree to understand this Masterclass? No, you do not need to be an attorney or have a college degree to understand the content. The information is presented in an easy-to-understand, user-friendly format for English-speaking parents.

  • Do I need to be an excellent writer to benefit from this Masterclass? No; you need to be able to write the facts as you understand them in chronological order. You can use the dictation feature in Microsoft Word or Google Docs to do this if you cannot type. Other than that, you do not need to be an excellent writer to convey your thoughts because you can use online editing software and/or Artificial Intelligence to polish your writing. The Masterclass explains how to do this.

  • What age does my child have to be for me to benefit from this Masterclass? This Masterclass covers Part B of the IDEA which applies to children ages 3 - 21 in the United States of America.

  • Does this Masterclass guarantee success? No Masterclass can or should guarantee success. No attorney or advocate can or should guarantee success, either. However, your likelihood of success increases the more information you know. This Masterclass will put you on far more equal footing with the public schools than you probably are right now. Also, there is no substitute for the information you will learn in Module 2. Virtually no one else will tell you about these hidden conditions that may be holding your child back, or how to find help to address them. If these issues can be resolved, your child's school success could leap ahead by several grade levels, as my child's did.

  • Is this Masterclass a substitute for legal representation? Are you my lawyer now? This Masterclass is not a substitute for legal representation, does not create an attorney-client relationship, and does not provide specific legal advice for your situation. Timelines apply to legal matters so you may want to seek legal representation to be sure your timeline does not run (expire).
